New Music Tuesday - Joy Williams

Joy Williams released a new single yesterday called "Woman (Oh Mama)." This is the first music released by Williams of the Civil Wars, since the breakup of the duo.

The Civil Wars, have the most melodious harmonies, but broke up last year, leaving Joy Williams and John Paul White to pursue music on their own. In only four years of making music together, they won four Grammy's. There is still speculation as to why they broke up.

The song "Woman (Oh Mama)" has a very different sound from the music Williams released with the Civil Wars. The music has more of a pop feel to it. The Civil Wars mainly used guitar and piano. Joy William's new song has a more electronic sound, and not the acoustic feel that her old music had. The one thing that remains, is William's unique style of singing, and way of evoking emotion through voice.

I would highly recommend this song to anyone who listened to the Civil Wars. Even though it is not the same type of music, it is the same great voice that drew me in from the start.
